G10 Global Investigate Claims That Facebook Will Hit 1 Billion Users This Year

January 31, 2012

In recent years G10 Global has watched as social networking, and more specifically Facebook, has become an essential marketing tool for any business, regardless of size. Unlike some, they were not surprised to discover this week that according to Digital Trends, with just over 6.9 billion people on the planet – “Facebook is projected to capture close to 14% of that number by the end of this summer. According to a new study, the Facebook user count will hit 1 billion by the month of August.” This will mean that more than 1 in 7 people across the world will be members of the social networking site.

The iCrossing Global Digital Marketing Agency is behind the user projection and based the prediction on the Facebook’s current growth rate. Gregory Lyons, a senior analyst at the iCrossing Global Digital Marketing Agency explained, “Using a process of linear regression on the data from the end of 2008 onwards we expect Facebook to hit a billion active users around August 2012. Looking at the data from 2006-mid 2008 it looks like Facebook was growing at an exponential rate, however more recent data suggest it’s growing in a linear fashion.” G10 Global understand that the majority of the growth will come from large developing countries who have only recently begun to introduce Facebook to the masses, such as Brazil and India.

G10 Global specialise in Direct Sales & Marketing and so getting to know their customers on a personal basis is key to success. George Kennedy, Managing Director at G10 Global commented that he is not surprised by the continuing growth of the social networking giant. He explained: “Because of the way in which we acquire our new customers, it is essential that we create long term and lasting relationships. Facebook is a great way for us to do that – we can create groups and update people who like our clients’ products or want to know more about upcoming events and product launches. It seems natural that other developing countries will take to Facebook much in the way the UK has.”

According to Gregory Lyons “With only 3% of India’s population on Facebook and 16% of Brazil’s, countries such as these will clearly contribute heavily to Facebook’s continued growth.” G10 Global are excited at the possibility of having an even larger group of potential customers with whom they can communicate. George Kennedy believes “Any business in the world would be excited at the possibility of getting your name and brand out on a global scale. Facebook will allow many smaller businesses to do this at basically no cost. As a marketing tool, the modern business owner cannot ignore the power of Facebook.”
